33-Years In Prison Convicted For Murder Now Released
District Attorney George Gascón said Thursday that a man who spent 33 years in jail for a Baldwin Park shooting was unfairly convicted of attempted murder. Daniel Saldana was convicted of killing six high school students driving after a football game on Oct. 27, 1989. Prosecutors say the accused mistaken the gathering for gang members and opened fire, wounding two. Saldana, 22, and two others were charged with six charges of attempted murder and one of firing at an occupied car. He received a 45-to-life term. Gascón said that at a 2017 parole hearing, another defendant in the case said that Saldana was not present during the incident. In February of this year, the District Attorney's Office received that information and investigated Saldana, finding him innocent. Read more.
